Yes, it was supposed to be a visit to Maggies Muffin's but the location is closed on Sundays. En lieu of that eatery I chose Peaberry's Cafe & Bakery. I hope you like it. Less miles too!
Ride Leader: Jim Bowker 330.281.3348
Starting Location: Deerfield Town Hall [see map]
Distance: 65.2 miles
Hills: Yes, several smaller (plus one big one) and a few tough climbs in Mill Creek Park
Fuel Stop: Peabody's Cafe & Bakery
Note: Not to scare anyone off but this particular excursion is far from a leisure ride. This route is for the seasoned rider. There are lots of hills, questionable and unmarked intersections, some higher traffic areas and many roads do not have bike lanes. This is suitable training for Roscoe Ramble preparation.
Another multi-county ride though the counties of Portage, Mahoning, Columbiana and a bit of Trumbull.
We will be starting at the Deerfield Town Hall,
1450 OH-14, Deerfield, OH 44411. Just 0.3 miles north of Deerfield Circle on the left hand side of Route 14.
A couple of miles on RT 14/224 then it's mostly rural for about the next 18 miles. We will be crossing RT 224 at a traffic light in order to get to Peabody's Cafe & Bakery at mile 24.
The next couple of miles after Peabody's is a bit sketchy. Partly on RT 224 then we wiggle though some back parking lots 'n such to avoid a high traffic area. Enter the parkway at mile 26.
Next it's over to Mill Creek Metropolitan Park system all the way to the North end. (for the history types this was Ohio's first metro park system and it's a hidden gem by all measures)
Quick stop at Kirk Rd. Trail Head for an optional rest
Ice cream (this one is for Mark - he loves ice cream shops) - On Mahoning Ave there's a place called Udderly Sweet Treats well worth the stop. No, it doesn't quite compare with New Baltimore or Country Maid.
Couple of photos from the many sites to see.
Lanterman's Mill is a fully restored and functioning mill with a gift shop.
The magical Cinderella Bridge (some of the local folks call it the Wizard of Oz bridge)
