The 35th Annual
Absolutely Beautiful Country Ride
Sunday, July 11, 2010
Welcome!
The 300+ members of the Akron Bicycle Club invite you to enjoy beautiful northeast Ohio as you ride our “All New” 35th annual ABC Ride. This year we are offering rides to appeal to all age groups and ability levels. One of our goals is to further the sport of bicycling and bicycling safety awareness.
Routes
Well-marked, 25, 50, 62 and 100 mile routes of Absolutely Beautiful Country riding.
All routes will greet you with spectacular scenery at every bend in the road, offering rural riding across the rolling farmland of Medina and Wayne counties and passing through several small towns along the way. The first rest stop is at Hubbard Valley Park; second stop, Orville Park, where it's high perch and grassy bank invite you to stop and bask in the sunshine (but not for too long!). Heading north, riders will stop at Silver Creek Metro Park for a delicious surprise menu for lunch.
The century route is for the more advanced cyclist, composed of the 62 mile metric and two optional scenic loops — one located before the first rest stop and one between the second stop and lunch — allowing you to decide “on the fly” as to whether you’re up to the challenge.
The 50-mile route will follow the metric century route with a cut-off bypassing Orrville, then enjoying the same Silver Creek lunch stop as the metric and century riders.
The 25-mile route is designed for individuals or families who wish to enjoy the country scenery with fewer miles at a more leisurely pace. The half-way point of the ride is in quaint Sharon Center where you can enjoy snacks and a beverage at the local general store and antique shop. A special ice cream treat awaits you here as well. Stretch your legs around town and enjoy the scenery from the gazebo in the center of the village's registered historic district. Then it's back on the bike for more country riding.
